Orthodontics

We routinely check the development of the teeth and jaws and refer to the specialist orthodontist when this is indicated. The orthodontist can provide braces to straighten crowded, rotated or crooked teeth or correct an imbalanced bite. The majority of orthodontic treatments now avoid the need for extractions but this will depend on the severity of the misalignment needing to be corrected.

Straight, evenly arranged teeth not only look good but are easier to maintain free of dental disease. While orthodontic treatment can be carried out at any age, including in adulthood, it is generally much easier and quicker to make corrective tooth movements during childhood or adolescence. Orthodontic treatment is carried out at various ages according to the specific problems requiring correction but, as a general guide, from around 12 years of age.
